Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board becomes first water board to get BIS certification

Bengaluru: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) became the first water board in India to receive certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its piped drinking water supply management system.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also serves as the Minister for Bangalore Urban Development, said, "Providing clean and safe drinking water to Bengaluru’s residents has always been our top priority. It is a matter of great pride that BWSSB is the first organization in the country to receive BIS certification for its water supply system."

The scope of BIS certification encompasses water intake from source, treatment, storage and pumping, distribution through the pipeline network, ongoing maintenance and quality assurance, and consumer metering and billing.

Prior to certification, the BIS team conducted an assessment of BWSSB’s operations, which includes collection and testing of water samples from different city locations, verification of compliance with national drinking water standards, audit of operational procedures and quality control measures, multi-stage review of documentation and testing protocols.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar said, "The BIS certification is a major milestone for Bengaluru’s water utility, serving millions of residents. Ensuring quality service remains our highest priority. Our adherence to rigorous quality management practices has enabled us to achieve this recognition."
