Bengaluru stampede: Most of 64 injured discharged from hospitals

Bengaluru: As many as 64 people sustained injuries in the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, confirmed the police. The state government, along with the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, has agreed to bear the cost of treating the 42 men and 14 women injured in the mishap.

Fortunately, most of the 56 people sustained only minor injuries, with a majority of them already having been discharged from the hospitals they were admitted to. While 31 were rushed to Bowring Hospital, 14 were taken to Vydehi Superspecialty Hospital, five were taken to different branches of Manipal Hospital, the Sparsh Hospital on Cunningham Road treating three, with Apollo, Fortis and Victoria hospitals treating one patient each.

Bowring Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Kemperaju T said that 20 of the 31 patients had been treated in the Outpatient Department, and only 11 admitted.

“Of these, most were discharged on Thursday afternoon. Two men who sustained fractures, however, are still undergoing treatment,” he said.

Only a handful of patients admitted to Vydehi, meanwhile, are being kept at the hospital for observation, while the rest have been discharged, confirmed a source. “Most of them were discharged in the night on Wednesday,” the source

added.

All three individuals taken to Sparsh Hospital were treated in the OPD, while four patients treated in the Emergency Ward at Manipal Hospital on Millers Road, were discharged on Wednesday night.
