Bengaluru-based classical violinist Apoorva Krishna, 25, launched an album of original compositions on Sunday. A student of Berklee College of Music, Boston, she says her debut album 'Intuition' is an attempt to blend Indian classical music with other genres.
What inspired you to make the album?
My journey, overall. Since I started getting exposed to different cultures, I was inspired by the idea of taking our rich classical Indian music and merging it with other genres. 'Intuition' is all about bridging cultures. I don’t have one favourite track among the eight, but if I had to choose one, it would be Valencia. Since I did my masters at the Berklee College of Music, Valencia, the song has influences of flamenco music from Spain and a little bit of rock.
When did you decide to compile your compositions in an album?
I released my first track 'Ragamaya' in 2018. It was only after a few tracks I realised that they were all trying to drive people to Indian classical music. It was an intuitive and natural process, and it made perfect sense to combine them in the same album.
Composing as well as collaborating and performing is a big part of my plan for now.
