Besides this, the Vice Chancellor wanted the state to earmark some land for three other areas of specialty too.

“I request the government to provide around 300 acres of land in the periphery of the City or in the State, to set up four institutes of excellence in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology, nanotechnology and Knowledge Society,” he said, during the valedictory function of International conference on ‘Environmental Pollution, Water Conservation and Health’ at Central College on Saturday.

The three-day conference was organised to mark the centenary of Department of Zoology.
He said the Knowledge Society would not only have a heritage museum, which would give insight into all the departments at the University but also look at academic improvement, autonomy and finances.  “The Society will advice the Vice-Chancellor on these matters and through him to the state government,” he said.

Prabhu Dev said the University has decided not to become a concrete jungle and hence, would go for vertical expansion rather than erecting new buildings.
