Despite security personnel informing the owners about it, they declined to replace the burnt wires, revealed Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services Director B G Chengappa.

He was speaking at an awareness programme on firefighting and rescue operations on Thursday. Referring to many high rise buildings being constructed, Chengappa observed that there was a dire need to identify buildings that have flouted building bylaws. “Many people are constructing high rise buildings without seeking permission from the BBMP, and Fire and Emergency Services,” he added.

BBMP Mayor S K Nataraj admitted that many high rise buildings had come up on both sides of congested roads, after new areas were included under BBMP limits. As a result, the BBMP has taken up road widening projects in such areas, he added.
