<p>The first Indian Coronary Surgery Congress was inaugurated in the City on Saturday to create awareness about advanced coronary surgery techniques among the medical fraternity. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Addressing a press conference, Dr Vivek Jawli, Chairman, Department of Cardio-Vascular Science, Fortis Hospitals, said that Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is better than using stents in patients with diabetes, among whom the chances of multiple vessel disease is high. “Across the world, there seems to be a high number of CABG procedures being performed. Considering that there is also a disturbing trend of repeat surgeries being done, it is necessary to impart the right information and training on advanced techniques.” <br /><br />Programme<br />The two-day event aims at showcasing advanced CABG techniques that surgeons across the globe use to treat the ailment. Discussions will also be held on how to manage heart patients in a better manner. <br /><br />At least 40 senior cardiac surgeons will speak on surgical techniques for coronary artery disease and stimulate the knowledge of participating doctors. Around 400 cardiac surgeons and cardiac surgery aspirants are taking part in the programme. <br /><br />Besides this, 20 video-based talks will be organised on technical aspects of bypass grafting and the advancement in treatment of CAD, while giving useful tips on performing complex techniques.<br /></p>
