12-year-old girl jumps to death from 29th floor of apartment in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 12-year-old girl died after allegedly jumping off the balcony of the 29th floor of a private apartment in Hulimavu early on Tuesday. 

The girl, a class 6 student, lived with her family in the 30-storey apartment building.

The incident occurred around 5 am. The girl had gone into her room after speaking to her mother at 4.50 am and jumped off the balcony, according to police sources.

A police officer said that her parents were at home when the incident occurred and were awake. However, they got to know about the mishap when they were informed by a neighbour.

"When she fell, security personnel witnessed it and alerted the apartment authorities. By the time they arrived, the other residents had already informed the the girl's family," the officer said. He added that no note was recovered. They have filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and are investigating.
