Comedy show by Singapore-based artiste in Bengaluru

Singapore-based comedian Sharul Channa returns to India for a “homecoming” of sorts with her solo show ‘Saree-ously Not Sorry’, which wraps up its multi-city tour in Bengaluru this weekend.

Born in Indore, the 38-year-old moved to Singapore as an infant. Described as Southeast Asia’s leading female comedian, Sharul says she’s excited to perform for Indian audiences. “They are less conservative than in Singapore,” she adds.

Known for her bold and unfiltered performances, Sharul’s comedy is a “colourful description of human behaviour and emotions,” often poking fun at socially constructed norms, particularly around gender.

“There’s this idea that women have to compete with each other, and that we must have a fraught relationship with our mother-in-law, but that rule was made by men in power,” she says. Her shows are also known for addressing issues like race, identity and body image with raw honesty and memorable punchlines, a style that has earned her both acclaim and a loyal following.
