Bengaluru cop sexually assaults minor rape survivor, arrested

Bengaluru: A police constable in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl, officials said on Monday.

The suspect is Arun Thonepa, who is attached to the Bommanahalli police station.

Investigations revealed that the girl was already a victim of sexual assault when she was approached by Arun.

The police said the girl was sexually assaulted by her neighbour Vicky, who has since been arrested. The minor’s mother told the police that Arun had approached them promising to “provide justice” after they had filed a complaint against Vicky at the Bommanahalli police station.

It was alleged that Arun had taken the girl to a lodge where he made her consume alcohol and sexually assaulted her. Arun also allegedly told her to keep quiet about the incident, failing which he threatened to leak her private video.

The case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
