<p>Bengaluru: Cybercriminals allegedly hacked a government apprenticeship portal and diverted stipends meant for six candidates by altering their bank account details.</p>.<p>The hack on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, occurred between January 3 and July 4. Around Rs 1.46 lakh was siphoned off.</p>.<p>The portal allows candidates to register and apply for apprenticeship opportunities and receive stipends.</p>.<p>Companies use it to onboard apprentices and claim 25% stipend reimbursement (up to Rs 1,500 per month per apprentice) under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).</p>.<p>On July 26, the cybercrime police in western Bengaluru registered an FIR based on a complaint by Arun Kumar D, CEO and Director of Cadmaxx Solution Education Trust, Vijayanagara.</p>.Digital arrest leads to 1st cybercrime-related suicide in Bengaluru.<p>Kumar, 39, said that unidentified persons hacked the portal, changed the bank details of six candidates, and diverted their stipend to bank accounts set up by the culprits.</p>.<p>A total of Rs 1,46,073 was transferred to HDFC Bank, SBI, NSDL Payments Bank, and Axis Bank accounts, he added.</p>.<p>The cybercrime police have booked the case under sections 66 (computer-related offences), 43 (penalty and compensation for damage to computer, computer system, etc), and 66C (punishment for identity theft) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The investigation is underway.</p>.<p>A police source said that they have sought bank account details to trace the money trail. Investigators will also examine access logs and IP addresses to determine whether it was an external hack or an insider breach.</p>.<p>"If required, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) will be alerted," the source said.</p>
