<p>Diploma students seeking lateral entry to Bachelor of Engineering courses appeared for the Diploma Common Entrance Test (DCET) at various centres in the State on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) conducts the exam to determine diploma candidates’ eligibility for admissions to second-year engineering courses for the academic year 2013-14. The exam is valid for both day and evening engineering colleges under the lateral entry scheme. <br /><br />About 24,255 candidates had applied for the test, out of which 7,099 had enrolled in Bangalore. The test on Sunday saw an attendance of 87.39 per cent in all. There were 56 examination centres across the State, out of which 14 were in Bangalore. <br />The exam was conducted between 9 am and 12 pm for a total of 180 marks. The results are expected to be announced within a week and the counselling dates which are being finalised will be announced soon, said KEA Administrative Officer S P Kulkarni.<br /><br />Many found the Mathematics paper a little difficult. “Among all the subjects, we found this paper a bit tough,” said Harshini C, a student of Computer Science stream, who appeared for the entrance test. <br /><br />No coaching<br /><br />Judging the students learning of all three years in three hours puts the students in a difficult position, she felt. However, she did not attend any coaching classes and prepared on her own. Many have felt that the colleges have to actively prepare students for DCET as not all students would have access to private tutorials, especially students from rural areas. <br /><br />Voicing a similar opinion about the Mathematics paper, Lavanyashree M C, another candidate, said the other papers were easy. “Computer Science paper was very easy, so was the science paper,” said the student who was hoping for a rank in the 2,000-range which would assure her a seat in a good college. <br /><br />Document verification<br /><br />The KEA carried on with the undergraduate Common Entrance Test 2013 document verification process on Sunday. A total of 5, 674 candidates got their documents verified. <br /><br />The Examination Authority has requested candidates to visit the venue only as per their turn earlier specified, to avoid waiting at the verification centre. The KEA also conducted the preliminary examination for recruitment of assistant public prosecutors-cum-assistant government pleaders for Judicial department on Sunday, at designated exam centres in Bangalore.</p>
