Bengaluru-based doctor booked for threatening to crash plane during spat with cabin crew

Bengaluru: A city-based doctor and a private firm employee were booked by the police for misbehaving on a flight at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). 

Since the two incidents were separate but occurred on June 17, the airport police registered two FIRs and launched a probe. According to police, in the first case, they booked Vyas Hiral Mohanbai, a doctor from Yelahanka, who was on an Air India Express flight bound for Surat. 

Mohanbai, 36, police said, dropped the bag in the front row after the boarding. When asked, she ordered the cabin crew to carry it to her seat 20F. She also shouted that she would crash the plane. 

This prompted the cabin crew to alert the pilot, who decided to offload her after she didn’t listen to him and calm down, the FIR noted. 

In the second incident, Sadaad Mohammad Baba, 22, from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly tried to enter departure gate 8 at Terminal 1 and shoved the CISF staff who tried to stop him. 

Police have booked Mohanbai under BNS sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation) and 353(1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief). The doctor was also booked under relevant sections of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act. 

Second case

In the case of Baba, police invoked BNS sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 329 (criminal trespass and house trespass).
