Trench coat

Tired of dull raincoats? Being in some fun with bright coloured, printed raincoats and transparent jumpsuits. Leather jackets are eventually damaged by moisture, so go for a stylish bomber jacket instead to effortlessly augment your outfit.

No white

This is the time to wear all that is black in your closet. Light coloured tops can become transparent when wet. Materials like lycra, nylon, rayon and polyester are best suited for the season. Woolen cardigans and sweaters can be messy, so wear rayon waistcoats and jackets instead. You could also wear cotton kurta but make sure the colour or print does not bleed.

Avoid metal jewellery

Avoid metal jewellery because they can get corrosive in the rain. Wear the fake plastic ones instead. A short scarf is a useful accessory. Use waterproof backpacks and leather handbags instead of cloth bags.

Do away with denim

Yes, keep all that denim and corduroy aside for a while. When wet, they take a long time to dry. Go for rayon trousers and shorts.

Palazzos, patialas and flared pants are a no-no. Wear dark-coloured capris and cotton or activewear leggings instead.

Walk into a party in a dress and high boots. And how about a knee-length formal skirt to work?

Gumboots ain’t dumb

Take a cheat day and wear your favourite pair of jeans but pair them up with rubber boots. They don’t necessarily have to be knee high, you can sport a pair of classy Chelsea boots. Ironically, flip-flops and strap sandals not only work well for a hot summer’s day, but also for the rains. Avoid canvas and leather shoes because they weigh you down when soaked. Jelly shoes and floaters can add that extra edge.
