Hosur Road flyover shut for buses from Jan 14

The Hosur Road flyover will be shut for buses from both directions as authorities who finished the maintenance work on the left-hand side (from Silk Board to Electronics City) are set to begin work on the opposite direction from Monday night.

The closure will affect thousands of buses, including BMTC, KSRTC, Tamil Nadu state corporation buses as well as those operated by private carriers.

Captain Baldev Singh, Route Operations Manager and Public Relation Officer at Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited (BETPL), said half of the work on the periodic maintenance of the expansion joints of the flyover has been completed between December 17 and the first week of January. “From January 15, we are moving on to the other side to address right-hand side expansion joints. So, traffic diversion will change from towards Electronics City to the road towards Bengaluru/Silk Board. Buses will not be allowed in either direction between Silk Board and Electronics City as a safety precaution to the recently replaced expansion joints,” he said.

Singh said the first phase of the maintenance work was completed within 27 days, much before the deadline of 35 days. “We hope cooperation from the public will continue to help us complete the (remaining) maintenance work in time,” he said.

As per BETPL, about 75,000 vehicles use the elevated highway every day. The congestion on the flyover will prevail for about a month until the completion of entire maintenance work. The road witnesses heavy traffic, and the closure of the lane — which forces vehicles from either side to use only one side of the road — is likely to result in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The congestion affects thousands of commuters, especially those travelling from Bengaluru to Electronics City to reach office. They had suggested the concessionaire take up repair works during the weekends when the traffic was low.
