City hospitals worked full strength on Thursday to ensure emergency services were available during the strike, but they had less than usual patient turnout.

"We had a good response from all the hospitals in the city. Nobody closed down because of the bandh," said Dr Veeranna B, secretary, Indian Medical Association.

He said patient inflow at hospitals was steady. Doctors of various hospitals confirmed that they did not cancel or reschedule surgeries or appointments.

Before Thursday's bandh, the hospitals had made a decision to work full strength and serve the patients, Dr Veeranna said.

Major medical facilities like Narayana Hrudayalaya, Columbia Asia and Sakra World Hospitals have said the bandh had no impact on their regular functioning. The health and family welfare department had issued a circular, asking its medical and non-medical staff to work on Thursday.
