Karthik and Sandeep dived in even as others stayed put on the bank around 2 pm. <br /><br />Moments later, they drowned. Seeing this, other boys ran back to their homes and alerted the villagers. A few local residents then rushed to the lake and fished out the boys. They were taken to a hospital in Hoskote where doctors declared them brought dead, according to Kishore, a local resident. <br /><br />Farmers had dug the lake for fertile soil in the summer, creating deep pits. The boys went into water unaware of them, said Raghu, another villager. The villagers said there was no sign board warning about possible danger.</p>
