Karnataka cabinet approves decision to develop satellite townships around Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a move that is likely to increase land value on the outskirts of the state capital, the Cabinet on Thursday approved the ‘Greater Bengaluru Integrated Townships’ project.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said: “Under the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority, in Bidadi hobli, Ramanagar taluk, Ramanagara district, Byramangala, Bannigere, Hosuru, K G Gollarapalya, Kanchugaranahalli, Aralalusandra, Kempayyanapalya, Kanchugaranahalli Kavalu, Mandalahalli and partially Vaderahalli of Harohalli hobli, the Greater Bengaluru Comprehensive Satellite Townships project will be
implemented.”

Population density

Patil noted that to reduce population density in Bengaluru, regions around Bengaluru like Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Doddaballapur, Magadi and Bidadi will be developed as satellite townships with road and railway facilities.

Discussions in the Cabinet are also said to have revolved around the final report by the committee headed by senior Congressman V S Ugrappa to curb exploitation of and atrocities on women and children. 

“To consider the 135 recommendations of the committee, a team under the chief secretary has been given three months to discuss the report and give suggestions on its implementation,” Patil added. 

The Cabinet also gave post facto approval to its decision to withdraw a bill on premium FARs.
