Rs 307-crore revamp of Bengaluru's ORR stretch between KR Puram and Silk Board junction gets Cabinet nod

Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Thursday approved a Rs 307-crore facelift for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch between the Silk Board junction and KR Pura metro station.

The 17.01-km stretch will be developed comprehensively to improve commuting quality and ease congestion.

According to officials from Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE), the upgraded corridor will feature a 10-lane configuration — three main carriageway lanes and two service road lanes on each side. “We also plan to revive the defunct bus priority lane to help decongest traffic,” a senior official said.

The project includes continuous brushed-concrete footpaths that will double as cycle lanes on both sides. While certain portions of the road will be rebuilt, most of the stretch will receive a standard bituminous concrete layer.

The plan also proposes modern bus shelters with information panels. "We also have plans for a skywalk under the metro line from Iblur to KR Puram, but this will be taken up only through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model,” the official added.

Although the initial estimate for the project was around Rs 400 crore, the cabinet has cleared Rs 307 crore.
