<div>Celebrity fitness expert Yasmin Karachiwala has clocked in over 22 years in fitness training but she remembers being a ‘lazy child’ once upon a time. Yasmin confesses that she got into fitness by chance and now it’s nothing short of an addiction. “My best friend wanted to shed some weight and she dragged me with her to the gym. I didn’t like the training at the gym back then, but I did it for her. I always try to master things that I don’t like or that I am not good at and fitness was one of them. Today, it’s something that I love and enjoy every minute I am at it,” shares Yasmin.<br /><br />The 45-year-old has a pretty impressive clientele. She started training Kareena Kapoor and now trains Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone who swear by her fitness routine. She also hopes to start a Pilates studio soon. In a tete-a-tete with ‘Metrolife’, Yasmin talks about what got her hooked onto fitness and what keeps her <br />going. <br /><br />How did you get into fitness training?<br /><br />I stumbled on the path of fitness 22 years ago by fluke and it was the best thing that has happened to me. It started out as something fun to do and earn a little pocket money, but over the years, I grew passionate and intrigued by the numerous things one could do to achieve results in the human body. Today, I value Pilates as it has taught me to look at the functionality of every exercise that I teach and make sure that the alignment and execution is most beneficial to each individual.<br /><br />What is your definition of staying fit?<br /><br />Very simply, it’s a state of mental and physical well-being.<br /><br />Tell us your experience in training celebrities...<br /><br />I’ve found that all the celebrities I train are extremely hardworking and focussed. It’s always more rewarding to train people who work hard and be a part of them achieving their goals. Who have you enjoyed training the most among your list of celebrities?<br /><br />Training is something that I am deeply passionate about. Since I love the work I do, it matters very little who the person I am working with is. All I can say is that my clients are very dedicated and open to trying out new exercise routines, which makes working with them a lot more interesting. Having said that, everytime an actor has to look a certain way <br />for a role they’re playing, we work towards it, the training gets more intense and exciting.<br /><br />What is your secret to staying physically and mentally fit?<br /><br />The secret, I believe, is a combination of healthy eating and finding the right exercise suited to your body type and lifestyle. <br /><br />Do you have your cheat days? <br /><br />I would say having a balanced diet helps you pull yourself out of cheat days. I ensure that while I am not binge eating, I am not depriving myself of anything either. Monitoring and moderating what you eat helps you deal and do away with cravings a lot more efficiently. <br /><br />They say that there’s no gain without pain. Do you agree? <br /><br />An excess of anything is harmful. While you do need to be strict about following your routine, overexerting can be more harmful than fruitful. Do full justice to your workout routine, but also listen to the signs of your body. Measured and steady exercise patterns is what works best in keeping you fit in the long run.<br /><br /><br />Suggest a few easy tips to stay healthy...<br /><br />Drink lots of water. If you don’t like the taste of water, infuse it with fruits like berries or even a dash of lemon. It keeps your brain active, helps you feel energised, and flushes out toxins, to name a few benefits. It’s fuel for your body with zero calories. Eat healthy and eat smart. Avoid preserved foods and try sticking to fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. Eat smaller portions at regular intervals. This helps curb cravings and binge eating. Incorporate some form of exercise into your schedule.
