The Kalasipalya police on Monday claimed to have solved the of nine-month-old murder case of a cosmetics merchant in a City lodge by arresting a man from Kerala.
Jithendra Kumar, 22, a cosmetics merchant from Akkipet, was found dead in a room in Pai Viceroy Hotel near Minerva Circle on May 3, 2012. Kumar was called to the room by Thrinesh Thaikodatthil, a resident of Kozhikode, Kerala.
According to police, Thrinesh had booked a room in the Hotel for four days between May 1 and May 4, 2012. He introduced himself as Babuji Rao, a cosmetics supplier, to Dayalal, the proprietor of a cosmetics shop in Akkipet.
Thrinesh invited Dayalal to his room for a business deal. However, Dayalal’s son, Jithendra Kumar met Thrinesh in the hotel room.
As Kumar asked Thrinesh to show the samples of goods, the latter gagged and strangled an unsuspecting Kumar. Thrinesh fled with cash of Rs two lakh which Kumar had brought with him for the purchase of goods. The murder came to light after Dayalal tried to contact his son and found his cellphone switched off.
After a frantic search, he lodged a missing complaint with the police. Later in the evening, Kumar was found dead in the hotel room.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Thrinesh hailed from Chennai and a special team of police which went to Chennai found that he had fled to Malayasia by then. A red corner notice was issued against him in August 2012.
On February 15, 2013, the City police received information that Trinesh was scheduled to arrive at Tiruchirapalli international airport in Tamil Nadu, from where he was taken into custody, police said.
