Kumaraswamy allots second phase of Kempegowda sites

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday allotted 4,971 sites at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NKL) to applicants picked through a random computerised process.

This is the second phase of site allotment in the layout. In 2016-17, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had handed over 5,000 sites in the layout.

This is the first layout the BDA has formed after a gap of 12 years after Arkavathy Layout went into legal hurdles.

So far, the BDA has allotted 17,900 sites in NKL.

This includes 849 Arkavathy allottees, 2,175 land losers in the first stage and 3,800 land losers in the second stage.

The layout is spread across 4,043.27 acres, of which 2,383.11 acres is in BDA’s possession and is free of litigation. On these patches, the BDA carved out 1,74,900 sites and handed them over.

On the occasion, Kumaraswamy said: “Infrastructure works are being completed in the layout. So far, roads, culverts, stormwater drains and drains have been constructed.

The BDA has been given around Rs 3,000 crore to complete the infrastructure work to ensure that mistakes of the previous layouts are not repeated here.”

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru in-charge minister G Parameshwara said those who have not got sites would get their money back in a month.

He said the BDA would earn Rs 1,400 crore from the sale of 5,000 sites.

He said while applicants from the SC/ST communities will have three years to pay the site amount, general category allottees have four months.

For the first 60 days, there will be no interest. Subsequently, in the first month, 18% interest will be levied, and for the remaining three months 21% will be charged.

Some of the allottees pointed out that as most of them were senior citizens, they should get more time to pay the amount.

They also sought the government to organise a loan mela to help them.

Residents’ demand

On the occasion, the members of NKL Residents and Site Owners Welfare Association submitted a memorandum to the chief minister.

Their demands are, They want the lease-cum-sale period to be reduced from 10 to five years and to remove Seegehalli and Kannahalli waste processing units.

Their other demands are, proper implementation of Rera Act, as the site cost is high, time given to construct homes should be increased to five years and streamline the registration process in the BDA.
