Madras Sappers host passing out parade for Agniveers in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The Madras Engineer Group and Centre hosted a grand passing out parade for Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme at the Govindaswamy Drill Square on Tuesday, marking the completion of their training.

The Agniveers will now join their respective units, according to a press statement.

Dressed in ceremonial attire featuring blue dooptas (ceremonial turbans), gold and maroon jari bands, and pristine white spats, the Agniveers marched in unison to the rhythm of the military band, embodying the ethos of the Indian Army. 

"The parade reflected the high standards of training and discipline instilled in the Agniveers, showcasing the core values of the Madras Sappers,” the statement noted.

Honouring traditions

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Gaurav Padak to the parents of the graduating Agniveers, recognising the sacrifices of their families. 

In a symbolic and emotional moment, parents adorned their sons with the rank insignia of ‘Thambi Sapper’, signifying their transition from trainees to soldiers in the Indian Army. 

The Centre ensured a warm welcome for the families, arranging transportation, accommodation, and other facilities. The event concluded with officers interacting with the families, sharing in their pride and joy at this milestone achievement.
