The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths on Thursday seized 10 kg ephedrine from a man who was trying to smuggle the banned substance at the Kempegowda International Airport and arrested him. The seized ephedrine is worth Rs 2 crore in the international market.
Ephedrine is a precursor chemical mainly used to manufacture several psychotropic substances which are banned under the NDPS Act. The suspect is Mujibur Rahman Naina Mohamed from Chennai. He was scheduled to board a Malaysian Airlines flight (MH 193) to Kuala Lumpur. He had hidden the ephedrine in 35 children’s bags which he stuffed in his check-in baggage. The sleuths checked his baggage out of suspicion and seized the banned substance. He has been booked under the NDPS Act.
