Man booked for trying to molest minor daughter

Police are looking out for a 42-year-old man who allegedly tried to sexually abuse his 12-year-old daughter when his wife was away at work. They, however, believe the suspect's wife cooked up the story as enquiries with the girl, a class 6 student, revealed no such assault.

The girl's brother was at home when the incident is said to have occurred, police said.  The suspect worked as a ladies tailor  before becoming jobless six months ago, his wife told the police. She said she was  working as a dishwasher at a hotel to make both ends meet, police added.  

In the afternoon of March  2, 2018, the suspect tried to sexually abuse his daughter when she returned from school. She, however, escaped and raised an alarm, drawing neighbours, the police  complaint filed by her mother said.  Neighbours then called the mother.

"We have opened a case under the Pocso Act, but the mother and the daughter came to the police station on Saturday asking us to withdraw the case. The woman just wants her husband to leave them," a senior police officer told DH
