Man hits live wire while digging, electrocuted

A 27-year-old contract labourer was electrocuted on Wednesday when he came in contact with a live wire while digging a trench to lay a gas pipeline in Maruthi Layout in Amruthahalli police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Nagaraj from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, who was working as a contract labourer for Mask construction company which has been contracted by GAIL Gas Ltd. for laying pipelines across the city to provide piped natural gas.

According to the Amruthahalli police, the major part of the excavation was done by JCBs and Nagaraj digging with a sharp iron rod around 10 am, when he accidentally came in contact with a live wire and was electrocuted.

Police added that KPTCL was supplying power to households through underground cables and the contractor should have checked this before allotting work. A case of negligence was registered against him and construction company.
