Police have arrested a 55-year-old auto-rickshaw driver who allegedly killed his 80-year-old mother when she refused him money for alcohol in Ambedkar Nagar, Adugodi.
Selvaraj, an alcoholic, was irregular to work. His mother Lakshmi would work as a maid to make both ends meet.
On Saturday, Selvaraj picked a fight with his mother and, in a fit of rage, banged her head against a wall. Lakshmi sustained severe head injuries and screamed for help. Neighbours rushed to their house and tried to catch Selvaraj, but he managed to escape. They rushed Lakshmi to to a hospital where she died later.
The Adugodi police later made the arrest.
