Mid-day meal workers withdraw stir after govt promise

Mid-day meal workers who had been protesting for the past two days in Bengaluru withdrew the agitation on Thursday.

Around 20,000 workers tried to march towards the Vidhana Soudha, declaring that they will lay siege to the power centre. They were stopped at the City railway station by police on Thursday morning. Following an assurance by various ministers and department officials who visited the spot, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) agree to withdraw the protest.

Some of the demands are that the jobs of anganwadi and mid-day meal workers should be regularised, a fixed pay scale should be released, and the state government must pay mid-day meal workers during Dasara and summer vacations, among others.
