Nepali woman caught with forged Indian passport at KIA

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have booked a Nepali woman in the city for using identity proof created with forged documents, after immigration officers caught her at the airport last week.

The suspect has been identified as Mina Kumari Dhamena, 32, a resident of Subbaiahnapalya. The forgery was discovered on June 20 when Kumari attempted to travel to Abu Dhabi using an Indian passport.

As per the complaint filed by Vijeyanta Singh, an immigration officer at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Kumari produced an Indian passport (V8321978) and claimed she was travelling to Abu Dhabi. However, Swaminathan, the staff member on duty, found her behaviour suspicious and referred her to senior officers.

During questioning, Kumari revealed that she is a native of Bajhang in Nepal and had entered India via Uttar Pradesh in 2012. She initially lived in Mathikere, North Bengaluru, before moving to Subbaiahnapalya.

Singh subsequently filed a case against Kumari at the BIAL police station. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 340(2) (using a forged document or electronic record as genuine) and 336(2) (forgery).

An investigator told DH that the suspect has been served a notice and will be interrogated. The officer said they will probe how Kumari entered India and managed to forge identity proofs to obtain official documents.
