A lot have been written and read about his fitness regime and the strict schedule that he follows. But it was a rare scenario when actor John Abraham extended his love and passion for fitness and got down to make people learn short 10 - 20 minutes workouts.

.
Abraham, who was recently in the city for a fitness masterclass in Gurgaon-DLF Cyber Hub, says that it’s not in the recent past that he has got into fitness, but it was a culture that he grew up in.

“I’ve grown up with my father making me watch football world cup and tennis tournaments. So it was not something that I had to force myself into. I grew up in a culture of fitness,” Abraham tells Metrolife.

Ask him when did he begin to practice it, and he laughs saying, “Even before I was born!”

“I got into fitness since school, probably when I was in eighth grade. I was the captain of the school’s athletic team. Then only I realised that one needs to be fit all the time. Slowly, I got influenced to the gym because I knew that it’s also important to look a certain way. And then, nothing can stop you if you really want to achieve something,” he adds.

During the masterclass organised by Reebok, Abraham encouraged participants to do a 20-minute power-packed workout session. According to him, adapting fitness as a lifestyle is an ‘urgency’ in India, which ranks amongst the top 10 countries in the world with the highest number of obese people.

“If we don’t change our ways, then very soon there’s going to be a day when we will be in the top two in these rankings. We are a growing country with a majority of youth in the population. Obesity and being unfit is an epidemic in India. The need of the hour is to dirty yourself, get out there and sweat it out,” he says.

However, even while working out, there are numerous concepts like cheat days, four-days-a-week workout, in which people believe. So, does he also believe in them?

“I don’t think that any regimen is wrong. It depends on you as to what workout suits you. So if I have to judge if having cheat days is right or wrong, I can just say that they are all right in their own way,” says the 43-year-old actor adding that he follows seven-days-a-week workout routine and has had no cheat day since the past 21 years.

When asked if he as an actor will be interested in doing a film on fitness, he tells Metrolife “You advise me on what I can do on fitness and I will do it, genuinely.

Why don’t you ask your readers to send suggestions on what can be done for a movie on fitness... And I’ll try and work on the subject that you guys are interested in,” says Abraham who will soon be next seen in Dishoom along with Varun Dhawan, set to release on June 1. He will also be seen in Force 2, starring opposite Sonakshi Sinha, which will hit screens in November.
