Operator dies as crane collapses

A 49-year-old electric crane operator died after falling 30 feet at the Rail Wheel Factory on Doddaballapur Road in Yelahanka on Tuesday, leading to a flash protest by his colleagues who alleged negligence by the management and demanded action against supervisors.

Y Ravishankar Rao, a resident of Mathikere, was operating the crane atop an iron slab attached to it. Around 3.45 pm, the crane collapsed owing to some technical issue and Rao fell 30 feet. Other workers rushed him to a hospital but he was declared brought dead. Rao had been working at the factory for the past 20 years.

The workers said negligence by the management led to the tragedy. The Yelahanka police rushed to the spot and pacified the workers.
