The total number of two-wheelers registered in Bangalore has reached a mind-boggling 24.13 lakh. Cars (privately owned) are fast catching up with as many as 6.34 lakh being registered across the 10 RTOs in Bangalore.
These statistics were tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday by Transport Minister R Ashok in a written reply to N L Narendra Babu (Cong).
There are 1.14 lakh transport four-wheelers registered in Bangalore. These include goods four-wheelers, motor cabs, maxi cabs and other taxis.
To add to the congestion are autorickshaws. As many as 89,689 have been registered in Bangalore so far.
Interestingly, there has been a decline in the state-wide number of new vehicles registered in 2009-10 compared to 2007-08. While 8.06 lakh new vehicles were registered in 2007-08, the figure dipped to 7.81 lakh in 2009-10.
