Two customers who ordered samosas from a shop in Neelasandra were attacked with machetes, knives, samosa stainer and burning oil for asking to supply the snack fast.

BBM graduate Mohammad Sultan Ali (25) had cuts to his fingers in the left hand, while his friend Abbas –owner of a call centre in Indiranagar- had burn injuries from the hot oil and samosa stainers.

At 5 pm on May 18, the duo was at a newly opened shop in Anepalya first street in the locality to buy samosas to break their Ramzan fast. Ali had ordered ten samosas but the shop workers had only packed five. Having parked his car in a narrow road and since it threatened to rain, Ali asked the shopkeeper to give the samosas quickly.

The shopkeeper abused Ali saying everyone was waiting to get home and break the Ramzan fast. The verbal exchanges escalated to physical fight when Ali walked to a nearby shop to get the samosas. The shopkeeper and three of his associates attacked Ali and Abbas with samosa stainer, machete and knives, while also splashing hot oil on them.

The four men also smashed the driver side window of his car as Ali wanted to drive away. Ali and Abbas then rushed to the Hosmat hospital to treat their injuries and lodged a complaint at the Ashok Nagar police station.

Police slapped charges of assault, wrongful restraint and provoking breach of peace against Waseem, Fairoz, Imran and Khaseem.

“It’s unfortunate that the police did not press murder attempt to murder charges on the assailants. They’ve booked them for assault, which is a bailable offence,” Ali told DH, adding that he is preparing to take the test to be police sub-inspector.
