High Court of Karnataka on Friday ordered issuance of notices to the state government in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to extend benefits of housing schemes to autorickshaw drivers in the city.

The PIL was filed by Auto Drivers' Souhardha Co-operative Society and a senior citizen, Somashekhar.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee issued notices to chief secretary, commissioner, Bangalore Development Authority, commissioner, Department of Food and Civil Supplies and others.

The petitioners highlighted the hardships faced by autorickshaw drivers and requested direction to the state government to extend benefits in Pradhan Mantri Avas Scheme, Ambedkar Housing Scheme, Vajpayee Housing Scheme and Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme.
