Plea to fill up judges' posts in K'taka HC

The Advocates’ Association of Bengaluru (AAB) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India, and others concerned to immediately fill up the vacancies to the posts of judges in the Karnataka high court.

Stating that they were writing it in such pain and agony, the association added that as against the total sanctioned of 62, the present strength of judges in the high court is just 33 and two of them will retire in 2019.

The shortage of judges has not only resulted in the pendency of cases but has also affected in getting cases listed and posting of matters for admission, it said.

The high court collegium has recommended nine names to the judges' post which they say is pending since May 2018 before the Central government. They have sought immediate action in filling up the vacancies.
