The city police have banned the sale of liquor in eight police station limits to avert untoward incidents during the Ganesha idol immersions at Halasuru Lake on Saturday.

Police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said, in a circular, that the ban is to prevent group clashes during processions and idol immersions, in which 5,000 people are expected to participate.

The ban will be in place in the JC Nagar, RT Nagar, Hebbal, Sanjay Nagar, KG Halli, DG Halli, Pulikeshi Nagar and Bharathi Nagar police station limits.

Kumar warned that action will be taken against shops that sell liquor during the ban period. Additional security arrangements have been made during the Ganesha processions.
