'Pour my ashes in the gutter if I’m guilty': Techie pens 44-page note before dying by suicide

Bengaluru: An Uttar Pradesh native, who faced nine cases, including that of murder, unnatural sex and dowry harassment, died by suicide on Monday after penning a 44-page note and uploading an 81-minute video online.

The man, Atul Subhash, has cited harassment by his estranged wife, Nikitha Singhania, and her family as the reason for his extreme step. Some cases also implicated his parents.

In his note, addressed to his four-year-old son, Subhash claimed the accusations against him were false. “Now with me gone, there will not be any money to loot, and I hope they might start to look at the facts of the cases. Someday, you shall know the real face of your mother and her greedy family. I pray that they do not devour you and your soul,” according to the note.

He also mentioned starting a savings fund for his son to buy a car in college, a dream he now described as “silly”.

Subhash had married Nikitha, a software professional, in 2019, but they separated.

Among his stated “last wishes” were live hearings for his cases, custody of his son to his parents, and strict punishment for his alleged harassers.

“Do not do my asthi visarjan (immersion of ashes) until my harassers get punished. If the court decides my wife and her accomplices are not guilty, pour my ashes into a gutter outside the court,” he wrote. He also urged that no settlements or mediations be made, insisting on accountability for false claims.

The video was shared on social media platform X, where he tagged prominent figures, including Elon Musk and Donald Trump, writing: “I will be dead when you read this. A legal genocide of men is happening in India currently.”

Subhash’s brother, Bikas Kumar, who filed the police complaint, stated: “Subhash travelled between Jaunpur and Bengaluru at least 40 times for court hearings. I will fight for justice to ensure this sends a strong message.”

Heart-wrenching: Kangana

BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut reacted to the incident, calling Subhash’s video “heart-wrenching” and condemning extortion in such cases. However, she added: “We cannot use the example of a wrong woman to torture other women. In 99% of marriages, men are at fault."
