Prominent Bengaluru institutions keen to join KWIN City project

Bengaluru: A few prominent educational institutions in the city have evinced interest in being part of the Karnataka government’s ambitious KWIN City project.

A list featuring land allegedly allotted to educational institutions as part of the project was making the rounds on social media. However, speaking to DH, Industries Minister M B Patil clarified that the list was untrue, as the names of institutions would only be finalised once the land acquisition process was completed.

The list in question mentioned 13 educational institutions — including St John’s University, Dayanand Sagar University (DSU), Dr CKM College of Ethics and Technology Law, KK Educational and Charitable Trust, KLE University, PES University, Pragati University, NVT Quality Educational Trust, RV College, ISBR, Mehras, Shradha University, and SKRIBE. It also stated the proposed student count and land allotted to each institution, for example, 50 acres each for St John’s University and Dayanand Sagar University, and 25 acres for RV College.

DH confirmed that two of the 13 institutions had reached out to the Industries Ministry but were yet to receive a positive response. “The KWIN City project is a good initiative of the state government. DSU would be happy to be a part of this project if the land for our campus is allotted on the main road,” R Janardhan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, DSU, told DH.

The minister said his team was in touch with various national and international institutions for the KWIN City project. “We want to bring the best institutions and universities to the city. Right now, the team is only having informal conversations,” he added.
