Miscreants forced open the utility box of a scooter, parked on Kamakshipalya Main Road, and made away with Rs 6.42 lakh in cash along with a blank cheque book, passbook and other documents on Monday.
Prasanna Kumar, a wholesale grain merchant, had withdrawn Rs 5.92 lakh from his account in a co-operative bank on Monday afternoon.
Kumar had added an additional Rs 50,000 to the amount and secured it in the utility box under the seat of his scooter, police said.
Kumar went to buy groceries parking his vehicle on Kamakshipalya Main Road.
On his return he found the utility box broken and money missing from it. Basaveshwara Nagar police have registered a case.
