For many, weekends are the time to unwind and rejuvenate before a hectic week begins. For actors, the concept of weekends is very different. Most of us are usually way too busy to even realise it is the weekend. So we eagerly look forward to the day the director asks us not to come to the set. This routine has become a part of my life now.
I try my best to utilise my day off as wisely as possible. As most of my friends are not from the industry, their timetable doesn’t usually match with mine. So I try to manage accordingly and catch up with them as often as I can.

After a long time, we went to Goa for three days recently. That’s one of my favourite things to do — go on a weekend getaway, switch off my phone, enjoy the beach and spend time with my loved ones.

When time allows, I enjoy going to Lonavla and hanging out there. I’m not much of a outgoing kind of person; I enjoy house parties better. They are a lot more intimate and peaceful. I have the liberty to play the music I want to hear and be able to converse with my friends without having to shout. It becomes too stressful when we go partying. However, if there is an interesting gig happening in the city, I go there with my friends. There are also days when I prefer to hang out at home and enjoy quality time with my girlfriend Rochelle Rao. I enjoy cooking; I find it very relaxing.

I usually make a romantic dinner for us. I might not be a great cook but I have a few of my favourites that I believe I make well. Pasta, cheese toast, pesto chicken, sauteed mushrooms and stews are some of my
specialities. I don’t usually follow a particular recipe; I improvise with whatever is available in the fridge. I like watching television series as well. ‘Suits’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ are some of my favourites.

Working out is a part of my everyday routine. Going to the shooting set and working for about 12-hours can be tiring. It’s also emotionally draining. So I try to catch up on about 15 to 20 minutes of workout as often as I can.

Though I don’t get that much of time these days, I like reading as well. I read everything — from non-fiction and new concepts to interesting articles on the internet. The options are endless these days!

My parents live in New Delhi. So whenever I get the time, I head over to visit them. I love going there and catching up with my friends. Being pampered with my mother’s cooking is something I look forward to. Going home helps me rejuvenate and I realise how much I need that break.

That’s why I think my idea of a perfect weekend is to have as much as fun as I can without being distracted by the phone and having my loved ones around me. Given my busy schedule, this almost feels like a luxurious gift. But I think we all need that once in a while and I try to make the most of it whenever I can.”

(As told to Anila Kurian)
