Stamps on musicians

India Post on Wednesday released eight new commemorative stamps dedicated to noted musicians — Pandit Ravi Shankar, Bhimsen Joshi, D K Pattammal, Gangubai Hangal, Kumar Gandharva, Vilayat Khan, Mallikarjun Mansur and Ali Akbar Khan.

The stamps were released by Principal Secretary of the Department of Kannada and Culture Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Postmaster General (Karnataka Circle) Bangalore M S Ramanujan, Kannada and Culture Department Director K A Dayananda and Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy president Gangamma Keshavamurthy.

The stamps will be sold at head post offices in Mangalore, Mysore and Belgaum; apart from GPO, Bangalore. It will also be available in all other head post offices in districts. A miniature sheet containing the stamps is priced at Rs 80.
