A detailed project report (DPR) on channelling treated water to tanks in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts will be ready soon, said Minor Irrigation Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, on Tuesday.

.
Addressing the media here, Tangadagi said a City-based agency, Niketan Consultants, was preparing the DPR for the Rs 900-crore project and, it would be ready by May 15.

Treated sewage water from the Koramangala-Challaghatta (KC) Valley Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Bellandur STP will be directed to 14 clusters in Kolar district. Water from the Hennur, Nagavara and Jakkur STPs will be directed to about six clusters in Chikkaballapur district.

An STP each will also be set up in Kolar and Chikkaballapur to make sure that non-contaminated water is released into the tanks. There is a concern about the malfunctioning of the STP units in Bengaluru.

Tangadagi also said measures would be taken to ensure that soil and ground water are not contaminated. As per the proposal, about 308 MLD (millions litres per day) of primary and secondary treated water from the KC Valley and Bellandur STPs will be supplied through a pipeline via Hoskote Road to Kolar, where an STP will carry out tertiary treatment before releasing it to the ridge point (higher elevation point). From here, the water will be released to tanks, either through pipeline or through natural canals and gravity.

The total length of the pipeline will be 85 km. As many as 108 tanks in Srinivaspur, Mulbagal, Malur, Bangarpet and Kolar taluks have been identified for rejuvenation.

About 32 tanks have been identified for rejuvenation in Chikkaballapur, Gauribidanur, Shidlaghatta and Bagepalli taluks. About 110 MLD of treated water from Hennur, Nagavara, and Jakkur STPs will be carried through an 80 km pipeline to the STP in Chikkaballapur from where it will be released.
