<p>It is a fact that films are known by its actors... only by ‘lead actors’ though! The supporting cast of a film, though is equally important for it is impossible to make a film without it.<br /><br /></p>.<p> Then why aren’t they given their due respect and why does fame elude them? Metrolife met Bhupesh Kumar Pandya who played Dr. Chaman in the recent surprise hit Vicky Donor. <br /><br />His chance to be a part of Vicky Donor happened in part because Bhupesh knew the casting director. But knowing is one thing, getting cast is another. “I gave two auditions and was finalised only after a briefing.” Bhupesh took the role as a challenge without any apprehension and gave his best shot. “The script was totally new and very tightly woven, so there was no fear. We knew it would be a hit. It was destined to be.<br /><br />“Nowadays, big films lack content, yeh bahut hatke thi. The script was even better than several other small budget films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Dev D.”<br /><br />The movie gave a chance to many newcomers including the leads Ayushman Khurana and Yami Gautam. What was it like working with an absolutely fresh cast? “Most crew members had a theatre background. So, it was really easy to work with them. Annu Kapoor is a theatre vetran and Ayushmann and Yami attended workshops with N K Sharma’s Act One before the film.”<br /><br />But how easy or difficult was it to tackle the ‘controversial’ content? He admits that a few scenes were deleted even before being shot! “There was a scene where I am masturbating but that was never shot. There was another where I follow Ayushmann to the airport to get his sperm and then one where I reach his home, enter hsi house through the kitchen to collect sperm. This last was a scene after his marriage. These got edited for various reasons,” he reveals.<br /><br />Vicky Donor is John Abraham’s maiden venture as producer but surprisingly he turned out to be hands-off. “I never met him during the shoot. He came a few times after the movie had been shot totally.” <br /><br />But what about his boss, Dr Chadha aka Annu Kapoor? What was the experience with him like? “He is a treasure of talent. Woh hamesha apne kisse lekar shuru ho jaate the sets pe. The whole crew used to enjoy him and tales of his experiences.”<br /><br />Bhupesh who desires to work with Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah is currently working on his directorial venture in Udaipur called The Old World. Then there is an Indo-Canadian film Siddharth in which has starred as an actor which is yet to be released.<br /></p>
