Vishnu, accused in hit-and-run case, seeks quashing FIR

Around a year since escaping from a hospital after a hit-and-run incident, Geeta Vishnu, the grandson of late politician D K Audikesavulu, moved the Karnataka High Court on Monday seeking quashing of the FIR against him.

Justice John Michael D’Cunha, who heard the petition, issued a notice to the Jayanagar police, who had registered the case. The police had said Vishnu was behind the wheels of the Mercedes SUV which had hit an Omni van near Mayo Hall on September 28, 2017. Six people were injured in the incident. The case took a new turn after the police found marijuana in the luxury car.

Vishnu was arrested but admitted to the hospital, from where he escaped. His brother-in-law was arrested for assisting in the escape. The police had earlier suspected that he was under the influence of drugs when the accident took place.

He later surrendered to the CCB police, who are investigating the case. However, no charge sheet has been submitted to the court. Investigating authorities have said they are waiting for the forensic report on marijuana.

In his petition, Vishnu claimed that the accident was unintentional and he escaped from the hospital out of fear.

While the CCB police said they were still waiting for a forensic report on the marijuana found in the car, the accused claimed that the drug was planted by the police.

Following reports that several high-profile persons, including film actors, were witness to the accident, the police had also issued a notice to eight persons.
