<p>Jyoti Nivas College celebrated Independence Day recently in all its fervour.<br />The event began with the welcoming of the chief guest, Lt. Col Rohitash Kumarand Sr. Mary Marchrandus. Dr Sitavi Ramamoorthy, introduced students to both the event and the dignitaries present. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The cultural events started with graceful dance forms. Team ‘Kalarpana’ presented bharathanatyam, kuchipudi, odissi, kathak and mohiniyattam. The performance <br /><br />was followed by a very informative and heart touching speech by Sr Elizabeth. The programme continued with the rendition of a medley of patriotic songs by the NCC cadets of Jyoti Nivas college. <br /><br />This was followed by the drama team ‘Bahuroopi’, which presented a thought- provoking play mapping India’s freedom.<br /><br />The auditorium came alive with Lt. Col Rohitash Kumar’s speech on empowerment and how every opportunity must be grabbed. <br /><br /> Next on stage was team Advaiya, which performed a dance of gratitude to freedom fighters. <br /><br /> The Indian music team ‘Tharang’ sang a multilingual song, ‘Ek Sur’. <br />The choir was the next to join the celebration, with the song, ‘Ye Jo des Hai Tera’, which held the entire auditorium in rapt attention. <br /><br /> The last performance was the Western dance team ‘Swag Squad’, which was an energy- packed and patriotic performance.<br /><br /></p>
