Watch | Man climbs tree near Bengaluru police commissioner's house; jumps despite pleas

Bengaluru: High drama unfolded near the city police chief's office in Vasanthnagar on Thursday when a middle-aged man climbed a tree after being scolded by a watchman at a high-end apartment complex. 

Passersby spotted the man — who appeared incoherent — hanging from a branch and called the police helpline. 

Hoysala patrolmen arrived at the scene and tried to talk him into climbing down, but he barely listened and threatened to jump. 

Meanwhile, the police arranged a safety net and other equipment to rescue him. They asked him to stay put. But even after minutes of persuasion, the man leapt toward the side where the safety net was being set up. In the process, he suffered injuries to his back and is currently undergoing treatment at Bowring Hospital. 

The police are trying to contact his family.
