<p>Bengaluru: An elderly woman has been booked by the Basaveshwara Nagar police for allegedly cheating a nurse by giving her brass coins, claiming they were gold.</p>.<p>The FIR was registered on June 28 following a complaint by Manjula BS, 42, from Shankarapura, who exchanged her mangalsutra for the coins.</p>.<p>Manjula stated that on June 24, the suspect approached her on DVG Road while she was shopping. The woman handed her a coin and asked her to check its weight at a nearby jewellery shop as she wanted to make ornaments.</p>.Engineer, contractor held for Rs 4.6 crore fraud in Delhi irrigation department.<p>The jeweller informed Manjula that they lacked a machine to verify authenticity, but said it resembled gold and weighed about 1 gram.</p>.<p>The suspect then gave Manjula 10 coins, claiming they were gold, and persuaded her to exchange them for her mangalsutra, valued at Rs 3 lakh.</p>.<p>Later, another jeweller confirmed the coins were brass. Realising the fraud, Manjula filed a police complaint, and a probe is underway.</p>
