Woman flees Bengaluru hospital after delivering baby girl

Bengaluru: A newborn baby girl delivered at a private hospital was allegedly abandoned by her mother, prompting the hospital to alert the police and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The incident took place in Parappana Agrahara police station limits and the police have issued a notice to the hospital for admitting the woman without collecting any documents of the woman or details about her family members.

However, the staff of the hospital told the police that the woman seemed upset over delivering a girl and she might have decided to abandon the baby, the police said.  

A senior police officer said that as per the FIR, the woman, identified as Sanka Seet (aged about 20 years), arrived alone at the hospital in Konappana Agrahara on November 10 and delivered the baby the next day.

She remained admitted for four days before leaving the premises, abandoning the newborn. The hospital continued to care for the infant and later shifted her to the NICU due to medical concerns.

On November 21, NICU staff internally reported that the baby required protection and official intervention. A formal report was then sent to the Women & Child Development Department, following which the CWC, West Zone (Anekal Taluk), initiated proceedings regarding the child’s custody and welfare.

Based on an alert, police registered a suo motu case on Wednesday and have obtained CCTV footage to trace the woman.
