Bus driver falls unconscious; passenger averts accident

A major accident was averted owing to timely presence of mind of a passenger in a KSRTC bus in Hassan recently. The driver of a KSRTC became unconscious while driving and rammed into five vehicles before a passenger took the place of the driver and applied the brakes.


The incident occurred when KSRTC bus driver, 42-year-old Prabhu, fell unconscious while driving the bus from Mudigere to Bangalore.

When the bus reached Kalabhavan in Hassan, the driver started coughing excessively and lost consciousness.

The bus rammed into two autos and three cars. A passenger stopped the bus and averted a major mishap.


While the 45 passengers in the bus escaped unhurt, auto driver Saleem Ahmed suffered minor injuries.


The bus driver hailing from Chitradurga has been working as a driver for seven years and said it was the first time that such an incident had occurred.
