CM announces MSP for cocoons, Rs 20 Cr for MySugar

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, on Friday, said that the state government will provide Rs 20 crore for the development of Mysore Sugar (MySugar) Factory, and also necessary funds for the cooperative sugar factory in Pandavapur.

Addressing the gathering during the thanks-giving ceremony, here, Kumaraswamy said, the government will not let any state-run sugar factory to close. In addition, he said that a ring road will be developed around Mandya city. Besides, the Maternity Hospital and Public Hospital will be upgraded to 500 and 800 beds, respectively, he said.

Defending his move of announcing Rs 100 crore to Mandya district in the recent budget, the CM said, opposition party leaders condemned described that it is limited only for Mandya and a few other districts. “I am not bothered about the comments. I want the development of the district. No government had sanctioned such a huge amount in the last 25 years. Thus the district did not develop. I will convene a meeting to chalk out the development programmes,” he said.

Support price for cocoons

Kumaraswamy announced a support price of Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kilo of Hybrid cocoon and desi cocoon of silk. Due to rains, the price of cocoon has slipped and it is expected that the rains will continue for another three months. To support the farmers, the government will provide the support price, he said.

The government will have to take an additional burden of Rs 60 to Rs 70 lakh, but, the government wants the farmers welfare, he said.
