The annual 'Jatra Mahotsava' celebrations in Suttur village began on the banks of Kapila River in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru in a curtailed manner today.

The festival -- held in honour of 11th-century pontiff Sri Shivarathreeshwara -- has been limited to a one-day event owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since early morning on February 10, thousands of devotees have thronged the village to attend the festival.

In previous years, the 'Mahotsava' was held for a period of six days with lakhs of people from various parts of Karnataka attending it. However, this year, it has been limited to 'puja' and other rituals. In addition, folk artistes and students will be performing at the event.
